Can I ask if there's anyone in the church?

[this would probably be one of his stupid ideas, but Dextera wanted a little time to himself because what was dealing with his issues in a healthy way?]

[This is something Elizabeth understands well. She goes to the church here at least once a week, not even to pray, but just to find space to think.]

They are empty often here, and there are a few of them from what I've seen.

Of course you can, if you felt like it. But it will be awfully uncomfortable there. It's not very warm and I would hate for you to catch a chill...

[horrified little look. No, no one she knows is going around wearing something so tattered. She's just not having it.]

[he doesn't understand why it needs to be fixed, but he'll nod and head on over.

in a few minutes there's a knock on your door. hello?]

[there's a frown at him when he comes in.]

I've told you all a hundred times that if your clothing has a tear to come to me whenever you like.

[she steps back to let him in, and then expectedly holds her hand out to take his ruined jacket.]

[he blinks once - apparently it didn't cross his mind to go and get it fixed - but hands over his coat when he steps inside.

it is old and the rips look a little like something took a knife to the bottom of it. there were way to many pointy things back home that were a hazard to Dextera's health >_>]

[She's every bit a mother that has discovered her children have been putting themselves at risk right about now.

It really does look awful, she holds it up with a distasteful expression.]

Sit down, we're going to be here a little while.

[and then she's digging through a box at the foot of her bed, digging for thread that matches his jacket and the box of needles and pins, as well as scraps to reinforce where it's ripped.]

[just be glad you don't know Dextera's situation back home...

he sits down when she tells him to and looks at Elizabeth curiously. he didn't understand the look he gave his coat (was it really that bad?) but he trusted her not to do anything bad to it. Dextera was rather fond of that one...]

[She will be completely horrified, and fuss over him even more...

(Yes. yes it was.) But she goes about laying the whole thing out over her bed and taking the little scraps of fabric, cutting them to fit and then pinning them in place.]

I could be very cruel, and give you such a telling off for wanting to go wandering off when it's starting to get cold at night in nothing but this.

However I won't. Let it never be said I'm not merciful. [Holding a pin in her mouth, she paused in her rambling at the moment to fiddle a little more. She's very precise with her work, as she is with everything.] But this will take me a little while, so get comfortable...

[he's...not sure what a 'telling off' is but since the word 'cruel' is in there, he figures that it's probably best that she didn't give him one. and he's probably not going to tell Elizabeth why he wanted to go out.

but he does make himself comfortable, sitting at an angle so he could see what she was doing to his coat. there's really nothing special about it, aside from a strange red cross stitched on one of the sleeves. it's really just a coat that looks like its seen better days.]

[She never questions the need to wander, not here. It had been what caused that whole embarrassing thing where she decided to go throw herself in the river.

Once everything is pinned, she takes up threads a needle. Only, for whatever reason, she couldn't get the thread to go through the eye. Frustrated, she sighed and then looked up at him.] Could you try? My fingers are all slippery...

[he tilts his head a little bit, but he had been watching her try to get it in the eye so Dextera had an idea what to do.]

I'll try.

[she smiles at him, trusting him to do it while she digs around in her sewing box of scraps, to pick out another bit to match.]

[it takes him a few tries and he pricks his thumb once or twice, but eventually Dextera gets it in the eye. smiling slightly, he holds it out for Elizabeth to take it whenever she's ready.]

You're more than welcome Dextera...it was not a pleasant week for any of us, I think.

[She's not used to being thanked...but it really wasn't a problem.]

Most of the churches are empty, and there are lots of good places to sit and find quiet spots in them. I tend to favor up in the towers--but then, I like high places.

I wouldn't mind, I don't think anyone is in charge of the churches, really. If you'd like, I'll help you move some things in to make it more comfortable, like a mattress. At the very least, someone should know which church you're in, in case there's a crisis.
