9th Death

[for the past few days Dextera had been mulling something over. when he asked the network about how to sleep without dreaming, someone had told him about something called 'the best day of your life' and 'nice' and 'good days' too. having those things might make it a bit easier to sleep, but Dextera was coming up with nothing from home.

it was hard to call something nice or good when most of your memories consisted of you getting murdered, after all.

so that was why he decided to put the question to everyone here. they'd been able to answer his other questions, so why not this one?]

Can someone tell me what 'the best day of your life' looks like? Or a 'nice' or 'good' day.

Those tend to be different, and subjective, to the person involved Dextera. It depends on what they'd define those with.

What prompted the thoughts?

Ah. I think they were hoping it would help you relax, and have pleasant dreams, to think of those things. Something "nice" would be something you enjoy doing, that is relaxing or fun to you. Like when we watched the sky that time? That was nice, as an example. Something "good" is similar, but can be something that is beneficial to you or make you feel happy--like say, if someone gives you a gift. Those are two basic and broad definitions.

The "Best day of your life" would be a day, you felt, was not only "nice" and "good", but is one you want to remember your whole life. It was a day you didn't worry about anything troubling you, maybe. That's an example.

... I think the best days I ever had were when we got to live in Credinta for a week.

Libitina did it somehow. Everybody had different memories, but it was like we belonged there.

[He nods.] I got to watch the television and play with the other kids and everything.

[That's okay. Someone had to explain it to Alma the first time too.]

It's like... this box with pictures in it, but the pictures move and talk.

Well sometimes it's like that. Those're cartoons, but other times it's like the video on these things. [He points at his own PDA, smudging his camera lens a bit.] Like they recorded people and put them on the box.

I don't have just one best day; there's a lot of them that were my nicest days.

But they're all about meeting people who became close to me.

Those days? I didn't know they were my best days until I looked back on them.

But...I went about every day life when I met people. Those days seem to tell me that out of the ordinary comes the best in life.
