I've been tryin' to get the kitchen workin' so everyone can use it. Yukio's been helpin' but it's not easy stuff. There's this one problem I don't know how to work out. You want to help with that too?

I make American food. I can make anything. I'm used to having to make food for people with not very much and not all of it going together, but I make it work out anyway. ...My...family's kind of poor, y'know?

And sure, whatever the problem is, I bet we can come up with a solution if we work together.

I can make some of that too. Home style stuff. Seeing an actual American do it will be a good way to pick up some pointers. I'll show you how to make Japanese food. Like a trade.

You mean sushi? [He figures that is what most westerners would have heard of if anything.] I don't think we could find the right rice around here to make that anyways. Probably couldn't find any of the other stuff either.

[Rin will already be up there when Becca comes up. He's standing in the middle of the room with Kuro. It looks to be in pretty good shape. It's cleaned up and there is a table off to once side.]

The problem is a cook top or burner of some kind. We've got that hot box thing to work like an oven, but I don't have anything to cook over. I've been usin' fire. It won't be as easy for other people and the smoke could be a problem.

A three-wicked candle. It's still fire, sure, but it's way more controlled, and it doesn't smoke.

Where do we get something like that? Can we make one?

I don't know. It might take a trip across the river...maybe someone here knows how to make candles.

Candles don't burn very hot. If we're sending someone to get somethin' over there a hot plate would work better. Is anyone around here cleared to go anymore?

Yeah, but they're what I always used when the power was out at my house. I don't really know what else to do.

Hmm. Not sure what people use around here. There's gotta be something we can get. We should ask the people that have been to town what there is there.

Things are kinda different from what I'm used to over there so I'm no use.

It'll get worked out. For now fire will have to be good enough.

Yeah, I don't mind cooking with fire. It's hard to get used to, but not impossible.

Think of it like a gas burner. It's that same thing. Just can't change the temperature.

....I...don't know. If I didn't have a brother, I would've reported my mom to the police and gotten her arrested for what she does to me--they split siblings up if you report abusive parents. Uhm...then I guess I would've been put with a foster family... Then they'd've had some ideas about what I should do with my life, and I'd probably've listened to them....
