[ One might easily identify this as a sign of a new user -- and new arrival -- given the extended period of slow, confused exploration of the PDA's miniature keypad conducted in almost pitch darkness. But if one were to guess who, in the midst of a baffled adjustment to one's unfamiliar surroundings, would have time to sit down and play with a weird piece of technology, those who know the white-haired arrival might not have guessed Allen Walker.

But really, messing with this peculiar thing and indulging his passing curiosity is all that's standing between him and panic. It's a fine distraction, really.

One that loses its sparkle when what amounts to a very fancy, miniaturized typewriter offers absolutely no answers.

In his frustration, Allen vents his opinion where he thinks it won't matter. ]

clever, but it's still rubbish

[ And presses something that he'll later learn is called 'enter' in a unique method revealed by a brief clip of unintentional video recording; by way of the toe of his boot connecting with the device as a white-haired young man kicks it in a fit of pique.

He can't have kicked it too hard, nor has it landed against anything too unforgiving, as it's still running a few moments before the video cuts out. ]

[Either he's dreaming or seeing thing, or... Or something because he was nearly convinced Allen wasn't coming back—]

[—and then he's letting out something that could maybe pass for a soft chuckle. Maybe he heard Cross use Judgement on some thugs and had to come running back, is the thought that enters his mind.

And as he looks on, watches the single response from Becca and the conversation to follow...]

[He really...was back, wasn't he? There was a bit of a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, disappointment, he assumed, when he noticed that Allen...didn't remember anything.

Funny that, how much he had been hoping for it.]

[Can't do anything about the past now. He should know that best.]

Pick up the PDA, beansprout.

[ From the jump of his shoulders to the way Allen's jerked his head to one side (in the direction of the aforementioned PDA), all signs point to 'yes, Kanda's presence has been noted'.

Except, like the swindler he pretends he isn't, Allen's-- ]

[ --quick with a solid poker face.

In the bewildering haze of discovering yourself abruptly in wholly unfamiliar surroundings, Allen's temporarily shoved aside the recollection of their most recent meeting (in his past, that is), left only with the vague idea that he had been quite cross with Kanda.

Not that this was much different than the usual, but he's pretending he heard nothing. Perhaps, if he's already getting on with that 'beansprout' business, he'll go away if he ignores him long enough. ]

[Of course you would ignore him. And what the hell is your getup, man. You look ridiculous.

But if you're going to try and ignore him...]

[ Allen exhales an utterance in barely restrained aggravation at that hated epithet: ]

...Someone's looking to get shaved bald in his sleep.

[ Do you know the feeling you've had when you're right on the cusp of recalling something, and as it unfolds before you like a banner unfurling in a breeze it becomes a little too large for you, all a little much to take in.

So you sort of ... stare for a second, as he does, floored by the enormity of I was there before, and now I'm here, and I have no idea what happened in between these two events.

Suddenly: ]

--Where's Johnny?

Only if you can get past Mugen.

[And then there's a pause, because that makes him think a bit. He's got to place Johnny in his mind, because for him, he hasn't seen him since...

Hell it's been months, okay.]

I heard he left the Order. Hell if I know where he ran off to.

[Look at his own get up, Allen. It looks like he's been living on the streets for a while. No Order-issued uniform under a trench coat. Hell, he hasn't even worn the formal uniform in over a year.]

But you--

[ You're screwing with him.

You have to be. God, Kanda, you're still an enormous pain in the ass. ]

Who do you think you're kidding? You were together, I saw you!

[Maybe it's you that's the pain in the ass, Allen!!]

Before I came back here, I had just gotten Mugen back.

Back?

[ Incredulously, because that was ages ago and you and Lavi had been children and there had been that whole nonsense with the Komuvitan D and--

No, hold up, that wasn't the only time Mugen had been separated from Kanda. ]

... That's not possible. I saw-- [ He saw you two--but it's not like his sight's been all that reliable lately, has it?

Now that's a spooky thought. ] Forget about that! More importantly...

[ And then he finally notices the change of clothing. ]

...You look awful.

[Letting out a breath before switching the feed to private so they talk while... Well, he's getting up to head out to search for one (1) beansprout.

He makes sure he's out of his room before speaking.]

Alma passed in peace. It took me a while to recover from the fight before I could go back.

And shut up, I got back before I could change.

[ And Allen had been winding up to really let Kanda have it, chafe him with remarks about his appearance, he looked awful, more than usual, but it was all in fun the way that beating the crap out of each other in the Order's mess hall had been exercise and routine both.

And then Kanda lets the bomb of Alma drop again and Allen's struck anew by it. By how unfair it is, how unfair all of it was, and Allen feels the corners of his eyes sting, turns his face away. ]

...And that belongs only to you two.

[ So you said, he thinks. He's pretty certain of that. ]

I'm sorry.

[Kanda pauses, briefly, at that once he gets to the stairs. Oddly, that...sounds like something he could say, and it gets the slight twitch of his lips.]

Yeah. [It's something you gave them. For that, he's forever grateful for.]

Now where the hell are you? [So he can punch your sorry face and tell you something.

Mood swings. It's what they do.]

[ He most certainly is not dragging moisture from the corner of his eye with a knuckle, he's just scratching it. His white fringe keeps tickling his face, you see.

Really.

But there's suddenly a huff that sounds suspiciously like laughter, because somehow it just suits Kanda to abruptly veer off into accomplishing some kind of objective. That he had been peculiarly open at all had been novel. ]

I don't know. [ That has the sound of laughter in it, certainly. ] I meant to find that wheel, and found a cemetery.
